Deschutes County cuts its 2027 budget (BB)
Despite increased inflation and an uncertain economy, Deschutes County managed to cut about $2.5 million from its budget for the 2027 fiscal year.
Forecasts showed the county could face a shortfall, but cuts have forestalled it, wrote county administrator Nick LeLack in the budget introduction.
The county’s budget is over $705 million for the 2027 fiscal year, which started July 1.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office saved $1 million in expenses for the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, according to the sheriff’s office. Its budget shows a drop in materials and services costs. Paying invoices within 10 days of receiving them includes discounts from vendors, which saved funding, according to DSCO spokesperson Jason Carr.
The health services department cut more than 10 vacant positions the previous year and will cut more positions in 2027.

Eugene Airport launches $450M expansion project to address overcrowding (OPB)
Airport Director Cathryn Stephens said they already see the demand for the extra flights that the new gates will fill.
“Basically, once we build them, they will be full already, just automatically. It’s that number of people,” Stephens said.
Construction on the first phase, which includes an expansion of Concourse A, began recently. The hope is that the expansion will help alleviate congestion and overcrowding by opening up the space and adding more seating.
The second phase will add eight new gates to the airport by expanding Concourse C.
